Introduction of Pulsation Vibration
Reciprocating compressors or pumps may cause high pulsation and vibration in piping systems and may resulting in damages of pipes, structure, and foundation, or may result in unstable process operation or malfunction of instrument.
Pulsation vibration analysis of reciprocating compressor/pump systems are strongly recommended with collection of baseline data and regular interval operation to established trends, detection of early stage failure, misalignment, unbalance, piping fatigue, etc. that all leading to premature or even catastrophic of equipment and piping system.
How the technology works
Pressure and vibration transducers are using in combination to measure pulsation in process and vibration on the machine. Both data in the same interval are analyzed to identify area where excessive pulsation occurred with recommendation of dampening system and safe operating speed of the equipment.
Application of Pulsation Vibration
- Field measurements of variable frequency excitation and response.
- Impact or bump test.
- Flow induced vibration measurement.
- Machinery baseline acceptance test.
- Piping vibration acceptance measurement.
- Operating deflection shape (ODS) measurement.
- Finite element modelling (FEM).
- Dynamic stress analysis.
Problem detection
- Excessive vibration level on equipment and piping system that could lead to failures.
- Range of operating speeds that should be avoided.
